                                                              Swiss Agency for Development and
                                                              Cooperation (SDC)


                                                              The Association, in 2010, entered into an
                                                              agreement with the SDC to develop skills for
                                                              energy efficient construction. The project entailed
                                                              extracting, from SANS 10400 XA, what affected the
                                                              contractor and to add an energy efficiency
                                                              component to the affected qualifications.

        Quality Council for Trades and
        Occupations (QCTO)

        The QCTO is responsible for standards setting and
        quality assurance of occupational qualifications
        associated with a trade, occupation or profession
        resulting from work-based learning. At a QCTO
        scoping meeting on 31 January 2012, stakeholders
        to the construction industry agreed that KZN MBA
        would apply to QCTO to become a Development
        Quality Partner (DQP). A DQP is an entity appointed
        by the QCTO and delegated to manage, on behalf of
        the QCTO, the process of developing an
        Occupational Qualification.

        The Association has been tasked to review the
        following qualifications: Construction Contractor,
        Construction Supervisor (Foreman), Bricklayer,
        Carpenter and Glazer. A new qualification for the
        Insulation Installer is also on the cards.


        Construction Education and Training
        Authority (CETA)


        The Minister of Higher Education and Training, in
        March 2011, suspended the Board of The
        Construction Education  and Training  Authority and
        appointed an Administrator to administer the
        affairs  of  the  CETA.  This  was  initially  for  a  period
        of six months and was extended for a further six
        months. We still await a report on the findings of
        the Administrator.
