CONSTRUCTION EDUCATION SUMMIT 2025
CES24 held in Gqeberha last year again highlighted the need to continue taking forward the important conversation about construction education as it is currently offered within our institutions in South Africa to critically examine the relevance and currency of our programs in the face of a rapidly changing and developing world with evolving demands on the graduates that we produce. During CES24 an action plan comprising of short-, medium-, and long-term goals was developed and agreed upon. This action plan included a Ministerial discussion document that was presented to the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure. During CES25 It is hoped that this discussion document will form the basis of further engagement with the Minister and other stakeholders.
There is little doubt that if the construction industry is to be the engine for much needed economic growth and development in South Africa, government, industry and academia as a collective must propel change and innovation across the construction education continuum to achieve this goal. All industry stakeholders must partner and work together to reimagine construction education, bridge critical skills gaps, and equip the next generation for unprecedented opportunities and challenges. Together we can shape the future of our industry and create a lasting impact on our communities and the rest of the world.
All important stakeholder in the built environment education and industry sectors will be invited on behalf of the organizers of the fifth Construction Education Summit (CES25), the Association of Schools of Construction of Southern Africa (ASOCSA), and the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) together with other Heads of Department and School to participate in the event in person at The Premier Hotel in Pretoria from Thursday, July 17 to Friday, July 18, 2025. It is anticipated that this engagement will allow for active and enthusiastic debate by all relevant stakeholders about sustainable built environment education for the future in South Africa.
