ABSTRACT:

There is an aspect of construction delivery that few researchers seem to be aware of, or simply chose to ignore. That is, how constructions primary customers have consistently complained about the lack of value offered through the building design and delivery process. The literature abounds with terms describing the industry as ancient, outdated, fragmented, adversarial and resistant to change and these same criticisms have been repeated for the past eighty years. However, we do know that certain types of change have occurred. This research explores the types of change that have occurred in construction delivery whilst comparing these with a benchmark set by other industries that once depended upon a similar procurement methodology and upon craft production, but which evolved to become much more cost effective and efficient.
